Warnings: This is totally unbeta'ed and completed in few hours so you'll find mistakes here and there but i hope the message is there.....
Summary: Kitayama learn how to appreciate people who loved him from Fujigaya but was it real?
Notes: Inspired by Shinikare's character.... It's quite an ok storyline but it maybe a bit rush towards the end....don't you think so?
“Sorry sir but we will only open in an hour.” Kitayama was busy wiping the glasses when he heard the door squeaked and footsteps entering the bar. It was only 6 o’clock in the evening.
“It’s ok, Kitayama. He’s exceptional.” Kawaii, the son of the bar owner patted the other while smiling to the guest.
“Yo!” The tall guy who just entered the bar showed a peace sign to Kawaii before the smaller guy came nearer to him and punched him at his right arm.
“Taipi~~~~ It’s been a while, no, it’s been AGES since you came here. Just where the hell you’ve been hiding all this while?” The other was just smiling while putting off his black leather jacket and put in on the chair.
“Nowhere. I’m still in town. How are you, bro? How’s business?”
“Well…. Business is…busyness. I’m glad this place is improving from time to time. How about you, man? How’s work?” It had been 2 years since they seen each other.
“Well….work is…working out great. New guy?” Fujigaya pointed at the guy who greeted him earlier.
“I’m Kitayama. I’ve been here for 6 months now. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Kitayama reached out his right hand for a handshake which Fujigaya gladly accepted it.
“How’s working here? Does Kawaii bullying you? You should be careful because this guy’s mood can easily change like the wind.” Kitayama just threw a small laugh hearing to the other teasing him and his boss.
“It’s great. I have the chance to meet different kinds of people. And I learn a lot from Kawaii-san. What would you like to drink, sir?” Kitayama continued wiping the table before handing the menu to the other.
“Please… Just give him a glass of coke, Kitayama.” Kawaii pushed back the menu and laughing seeing his friend making a pouting face. “Ah, sorry Taipi. I need to go. I have an appointment with Goseki in 10 minutes time. Please make yourself comfortable. Just ask Kitayama if you need anything.” Kawaii pat his friend’s shoulder few times before he left the guy. A few seconds after, Kitayama was already in front of Fujigaya with a glass of the requested drink.
“Thank you, Kitayama.”
“Just call me Mitsu. It’s too formal calling me by that name. But I don’t get your name. I heard Kawaii-san called you Taipi but what’s your real name?”
“Fujigaya Taisuke. Only that crazy Kawaii call me Taipi.” Fujigaya smiled as he sipped his drink.
“Fujigaya-san…”
“Oh, please. Drop that ‘san’. I’m more comfortable with Fujigaya or Taisuke.”
“Ok….Taisuke.”
“So, tell me why you are here, Mitsu? Part time?”
“Actually, I’m a full time worker here. Well, it’s quite difficult to find a job matching with my qualification in these days. It’s been a year since I graduated so I decided not to waste my time attending interviews here and there. So, here I am.” Kitayama lifted his shoulders with a smile. “What do you do for life, Taisuke?”
“Err…. Can you promise not to laugh at me if I tell you what I do?”
“Well, if you say that you’re a circus sea lion, damn I wouldn’t.” Both guys chuckled at Kitayama’s silly statement.
“I …. Break people’s relationships.” Fujigaya threw his sight to the rack full of glasses located behind Kitayama.
“You what?” Kitayama immediately stopped doing his work before moved closely to the other. He started to pull one chair and placed it beside Fujigaya. It seemed he was interested to know the other’s job.
“There’s a company doing some ‘breaking a relationship’ service and I’m one of the experts there.”
“Cool….and how do you do that? I mean, how can you ensure it’ll succeed?”
“Basically, the clients will provide me with all the information about the so-called victim. Everything especially their taste upon man.”
“And do they always give you the reasons of breaking the knot?”
“Most of them are about money, returning back to the wives, dissatisfied with the women. But there’s no way I know if those are the genuine reasons.”
“How long have you been in the company? Have you ever failed?” Kitayama found the job was really cool and adventurous. It was not easy to win someone else’s lover’s heart so he thought that this might not be an easy job.
“2 years plus. Lucky me that I never got caught though.” He was not proud of his successful story but he really was the company’s treasure.
“You really worked hard, didn’t you?” The other just nodded his head agreeing on what Kitayama said.
“But why did you choose this job? Why don’t you get a decent job that doesn’t have to involve other people’s lives?”
“Well, I was just like you. After I graduated, I used to be the bar tender here for few months. But since this place is owned by my friend’s parent, I felt it was uncomfortable working here. That’s why I searched for other job and now, this is what I do.”
“You used to work here? I guess that’s how you see how relationships built and broken right?” Kitayama returned to his working area to continue his job as it left only few minutes before the bar was opened.
“I can’t disagree with you about that. By the way, how old are you actually?” Fujigaya guessed that the guy must be few years younger than him looking at his appearance and the way he talked.
“I’m 24 this year. How about you?” Fujigaya did look a bit mature to Kitayama.
“I’m 2 years older than you. But honestly, you don’t look like 24 at all.”
“I’ve used to that impression, Taisuke. And I’m not that happy hearing that.” Most people would not believe that he’s over 20 whenever they saw him.
“I’m sorry if you feel offended but please take that as a compliment.”
“Thank you. I will. Now will you excuse me, Taisuke? I need to open the shop already. Please stay and make yourself comfortable. By the way, I am still interested with your job so I hope you don’t mind me asking you few things later.” Kitayama headed towards the door to flip the OPEN signboard.
“Not at all. It’s good to have someone whom you can talk to. But I think I have to leave now. I’ll come again tomorrow.” Fujigaya picked up his jacket before leaving a few notes on the table for his drink.
“You must come, Taisuke.” Kitayama sent the other off the shop with a smile and small wave.
……………………………………………..
“Taisuke, welcome.” It had been his daily routine to welcome the other since their first meeting 2 months ago. And it had been 2 months that Fujigaya regularly visited the place, and it wasn’t because of his old friend, Kawaii. Truthfully, he only had the chance to meet Kawaii few times during his visit there. It was Kitayama who kept him from avoiding the place again, like he did 2 years ago.
“As usual, Mitsu.” Fujigaya placed his black jacket on top of the table and sat on his favourite spot, which was right in front of Kitayama’s working area. It had been his chosen sit since then.
“Here you go. Now, what’s another successful story of yours that you would like to share with me today, Taisuke?” Kitayama had been lending his ears to the other’s story for at least an hour everyday upon starting the bar business. Taisuke was quite reluctant to tell about his job to the other at first but Kitayama insisted on listening to them as he claimed that those stories inspired him in some ways. He wanted to study people’s behavior from Fujigaya’s experience with opposite genders.
“Honestly Mitsu, why are you so keen to know about my job? It’s not like it is really interesting though. At least not to me.”
“I don’t know. One thing for sure, I began to learn about people from you. And that’s giving an impact to my way of doing job. I mean, now I’m able to treat people differently based on their personalities.”
“Is that so? Glad to hear that. I never know that my job can influence you indirectly.”
“You’ll be surprised on how strangers can influence the other.”
“Yes….I am surprise.” Fujigaya sipped his drink before putting the glass on the table gently.
“Say, Taisuke.” Kitayama placed the cloth that he used to wipe the table, on his shoulder before standing right in front of Taisuke with a cheeky smile on his face.
“What? Wait…what’s with that smile? Am I doing something wrong? Anything weird about my dressing today?” Fujigaya stoop up and self-checking his black long sleeve shirt and his dark blue jeans. It was normal, like he would always wear. He then looked back at the other with a puzzled expression.
“Nothing wrong with you. But now I know how you could easily win a woman’s heart.” Kitayama let out a small laugh when he saw the other’s wrinkled his forehead.
“I don’t get it. Please explain.”
“It’s all about you, Taisuke. I don’t think you can pretend to be someone else the whole time, right? I think it’s because of your own personality that those women falling in love with you.”
“I still don’t get it. What about me? I have nothing extraordinary.”
“Okay… for example, the way you put down the glass. It’s so….how to say, you might not notice it yourself but you are really full of manners. I’ve been observing your way of doing things all these days and I don’t think I know any guy that is so gentle.” Kitayama had once witnessed how Fujigaya opened the door to other guests, regardless for men or women, and how Taisuke smiled to any guests who came and sat down beside him. He seemed approachable.
“I’m like that? That is something surprising.” Taisuke had never known about himself being that gentle and no one ever told him before. Well, of course, some women had said it but he never believed it. He never wanted to believe it.
“Yeah…but be extra careful because…” Kitayama couldn’t finish his saying when that crazy thought was lingering in his mind.
“What?” Again, he looked at the other with a confused look. More confusing when the other couldn’t stop laughing. It was the first time he saw Kitayama laughing so hard.
“OI! Mitsu! Stop laughing and tell me what you wanna say!” Fujigaya stood up and smacked the small one at the shoulder but that didn’t make the other stopped. He then gave up and started to grab his jacket to move out of the bar. Kitayama then pulled his arm and started to say sorry.
“Sorry, Taisuke. It was just my wild imagination.”
“Whatever it is, I don’t like it when people laughing in front of me because of something that I don’t know.” Fujigaya put back his black leather jacket on the table and sat down.
“It’s just that, your gentleness might not only attract the women… I guess some guys would fall for it too.” Kitayama continued his laugh when he saw the other’s face had reddened.
“That is too much, Mitsu. I am not like that. Will you cut this topic off?”
“Ok..Ok… I’m truly sorry. Say, Taisuke. It’s been 2 months that you came here daily. Don’t you have an assignment right now?” Kitayama started to arrange all the glasses in the rack neatly.
“That….is what have bothering me right now, Mitsu. You know what? The last thing that my boss told me to do is do nothing and go to the place I always went before I got this job. There was no other place than this bar. And that was the only instruction given.”
“That’s weird. Maybe he wanted to sack you off? Or maybe somebody had revealed your real self?”
“I don’t know. I did ask him again few times after that but he kept on telling me the same thing so I kept quiet. Actually, it’s quite nice for to come here and not thinking about work. You know how long I’ve been working without any leave?”
“Of course I don’t.”
“I never took a leave even a day since I worked there. Is it possible that this is my boss’ way to give me a break?” Fujigaya had never thought of taking a break since he had nothing else to do. Besides, he felt that the job that he did is not like a typical office job so he thought of having a vacation while doing his job.
“You may think so.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fujigaya was getting more comfortable being friend with Kitayama that he shared many things with the other. He never thought of asking his boss to give an assignment anymore. His daily routine would be waking up in the morning, doing activities with Kitayama, going back to his house, visiting Kitayama at the bar, hanging around there until the other finished his work, going back to his house, sleeping at 3 or 4 in the morning and waking up back at 9 or 10. He was afraid to admit that Kitayama had changed his boring life but that was the reality. Kitayama had dragged him to do many things together. Playing in-house soccer, doing extreme games and even fishing, which he never thought of doing it. He did learn how to spend his life usefully when he was with Kitayama. It was only one time he asked the other about people in his life.
“Mitsu…can I ask you something?” they were spending Kitayama’s day off at the beach located 150 kilometres from their town.
“What is it?” Both of them were lying down on the sand and witnessing the birds flying across the sea. It was Tuesday so the beach was not full of visitors.
“Do you have a girlfriend? I never saw you looking at your phone when we’re together. Ok, only once when your mother called.”
“Actually, I have.” Kitayama pulled out his white phone from his pocket and showed to the other the photo of his girl.
“My God….she’s so cute. So, tell me about this girl. Don’t you have to spend time with her instead of with me?” Fujigaya felt guilty of being selfish. He was the one who always requested to follow Kitayama.
“Well, I can’t say whether she’s still my girl. We just….being distant, I guess.” Ever since he got a job, he barely spent time with his girl. He worked at night and the girl worked on daytime. Their time had always clashing and at the end, they decided not to plan any activities anymore. He wanted to give her a call but she was busy with her work and when she called him, he was busy attending the customers. Few months later, they kept silent until today.
“Why is that?”
“Well, I guess maybe because I’m ignoring her when I started to work. I can’t meet her at night. She didn’t want to come to the bar because she hates that kind of place. And when she’s working, I’m still in my dream. She’s so kind. She never gets mad at me. But sometimes, I didn’t want to understand her. I kept saying that hating the place is just her excuse for unwilling to see me. And I acted like I don’t care about our relationship.” Kitayama did hurt the girl’s feeling but despite of that, she kept texting him asking about his job and whatnot. It was him who didn’t care about them.
“Don’t you love her? I mean, if you really love her then you should treat her well. Ok, maybe you can’t see her that often but you can text her whenever you free, like now. You know, Mitsu, she might not show her anger or frustration but I bet she feels that now. It’s just that, she didn’t want to burden you with those things.”
“Taisuke, I think you’re not the best man that can say that to me. I mean, look at you. What do you do for life? Playing with women’s hearts, right? And do you think they didn’t feel frustrated knowing that? So, please stop advising me what to do when you are doing it yourself.”
“Hey, I know I’m not a good person too but I’m saying this because of what I’ve done to the women. Do you think it was that easy saying goodbye and disappeared just like that from their lives? I’ve trained my heart not to believe in whatever they said. Now, take the phone and call her. Or at least send her a message. Anything will do.”
“Stop asking me what to do, will you! I’m not here to listen to all your nonsense love advice! Now pack back and let’s go home! I’m tired of this! Jeezz….” Kitayama stood up and began to walk towards the car. It was Fujigaya’s car and he drove from the town to the beach. Fujigaya followed the other and kept silent all along their way back. Starting from that day, he had never gone to the bar again.
-------------------------------------------------
[Hi there….just checking whether you’re fine today. Wanna join me playing soccer?]
------------------------------------------------
[Yo! Taisuke….I just found in the internet a new dessert shop is opened near the bar. Do you want to have a taste?]
------------------------------------------------
[It’s my day off tomorrow. Let’s go play kart!]
----------------------------------------------
[Is something wrong with your phone? Do you change your number?]
---------------------------------------------
[Come on, Taisuke. Please reply me. It’s kinda bored doing things without you.]
-------------------------------------------
[I’m sorry for what had happened that day. You’re right. I should treasure people around me more. I should stop being selfish.]
-------------------------------------------
[Hi, Mika-chan. How you are doing? How’s job? I just wanna tell you that I’m free this Saturday. Would you like to go to the beach with me? It’s been a while since we went out together, right?]
< I’m fine, Hiro. It’s quite surprised reading your message. Saturday is fine. Pick me up at 8 in the morning. >
[Thank you for not turning me down. Mi-chan, I wanted to apologize for what I’ve done and said to you. I never treated you like I should do. Now I’ve learn how to appreciate people more. I will try my best to be a good guy. And I want to be your only guy. Please forgive me. I do miss you, a lot.]
< Hiro, there’s nothing to be sorry about. I totally understand. What past is past right? We can always start a new chapter again. I want you to be my only guy too, Hiro. >
[Thanks, Mika. See you this Saturday.]
---------------------------------------------------
[Dear Yokoo-san, I just want to thank you for your guy’s great job. It’s totally beyond my expectation. I shall pay you the promised amount of money tomorrow.]
<Dear Fujii Mika-san, as I told you before. He’s our number 1 star and his success rate is 100%. I’ll check my account tomorrow and let you know.
~Yokoo-san>
--------------------------------------------------
“Hello?” Fujigaya was excited receiving a call from his boss. It was quite a pain to ignore Kitayama’s messages flooding his inbox since that day.
“Hello, Fujigaya. Can you come to the office and collect your payment?”
“Payment? But you already give it to me few months ago right? Before I went for a long break?” Yokoo-san had never delay his payment.
“A long break? I never give you any break. Now can you just take your money or I’ll donate them to somewhere else?” This was the only time Yokoo-san assigned him doing a job that he didn’t realize it.
“Ok.. I’ll drop by in the evening.” Whatever….Fujigaya thought that Yokoo-san might forgot about the last payment but he didn’t care. And he didn’t even want to understand about that ‘no break’ time that Yokoo had gave him.
-----------------------------------------------------
“Oi! Taisuke!” Fujigaya felt a small palm tapped his left shoulder while he was ordering a drink at the bar near the beach he used to go with Kitayama few months ago.
“Mitsu? What’re you doing here?” he would never expect he will him again. He thought that going to the beach on Saturday was safe him from bumping to the other as he strongly believe that Kitayama wouldn’t go on a day off on Saturday.
“Nothing. Just…spending my day off.” Kitayama slowly pulled his girl’s hand to be introduced to the other.
“Taisuke, this is Mika. Mi-chan, meet Taisuke.” Fujigaya bowed to the girl who was only like 5’4 tall with a short haircut. She was cute, just like Kitayama. Mika bowed to Taisuke with a smile on her lips.
“So….this is Mika. You’re cuter in real life.” Fujigaya remembered the photo Kitayama showed to him that day.
“Thank you. Do you want me to excuse myself so that you can have a chat?” Mika began to move over when Kitayama grabbed her wrist and Fujigaya shook his head.
“It’s ok, Mika-san. I think you should spend your precious time with Mitsu. I’m not going to bother both of you. Now, will you both excuse me?” Both Mika and Kitayama nodded their heads and sent Fujigaya off with smile. Suddenly, Fujigaya felt that Mika was touching his arm and when he looked at her, she said ‘thank you’ with a very soft voice that Kitayama couldn’t hear. Fujigaya smiled back though he didn’t know what was that supposed to mean.
------------------------------------
“Hello, Fujigaya.” It was a call from Yokoo-san that woke him up the next morning, congratulating him on his excellent job and ready to give him a new task. Slowly, he understood the meaning of Mika’s smile yesterday. He then grabbed his phone and started to create a message.
[Hi, Mitsu. I’m sorry for ignoring you all this while. It’s great to see you and Mika get back together again. I just wanna tell you that I’ll be flying to Russia to discover myself and I may not be coming back here. I hope you can cherish your sweet moments with Mika. Don’t forget to invite me to your wedding.]
