[Fanfic] Short But Sweet
2013-01-10 02:12 pmPairing/Group: Taisuke / Mitsu (and not forgetting a bit of Watta)
Rating: G
Warnings: It's a plain sad story, mostly inspired by a bit of Shinikare....
Summary: All Taisuke needed for his life was a sweet (even though it was short) memory with a short (but sweet) person...
Notes: Personally, I like this piece of my work....though it's not that good...
“You what?” Mitsu opened his eyes wider as he tried not to spill out the coffee that he had in his mouth. He couldn’t believe what he heard just now.
“I’m going to die soon.” Taisuke put a small piece of strawberry tart, he shared with the other, into his mouth before saying ‘this is good’ with a very small voice.
“And?” Mitsu asked very curious about the truth of the statement when he saw Taisuke react like it was nothing important.
“Nothing. I just wanna tell you that.” Taisuke continued finishing the tart after he sensed that the other wouldn’t be able to eat it anymore.
“And that is because?” Mitsu was impatient to know the reason Taisuke told him this, and only this.
“I guess….because you’re the leader of our team? I don’t know. I just feel that I need to tell you.” Taisuke tried not to show his actual feelings, especially in front of the boy, whom he fought a lot with. He only knew Mitsu since half a year ago and there was not a single sweet memory they shared, except if teasing Miyata could be considered as sweet.
“I see. Do the others know about this?” At least Watta should know, Mitsu thought to himself.
“I don’t think they need to know. It’s nothing big, after all. People die anyway. It’s only a matter of time.” Truthfully, he just couldn’t let more people mourn him. He didn’t want to see all the sympathetic faces looking at him.
“Besides, if anything happens to me, I think you will be my replacement. That’s why you need to know.” He continued before walking to the counter to pay for the bill, leaving Mitsu being all puzzled behind.

It came again. The pain in his head. And it was getting worse day by day. Was this the sign? Taisuke quickly reached out to his bag to take out the pills supplied by the doctor.
“I’m afraid you don’t have much time, Fujigaya. The tumour in your brain is growing rapidly now.” Dr Sakurai explained as he put up the x-ray film on top of a white light screen.
“How much time do I have?” Taisuke struggled with his tears when he heard the words.
“I estimate 3 to 4 months. It very much depends on how good you can control it.”
“Yeah…no cigarettes….” Taisuke nodded his head a few times before stopping and facing down towards the floor.
“Fujigaya, why don’t you undergo an operation?”
“And die after that? There’s no chance for me, right? You said that a few weeks ago.” The only reason why he didn’t undergo surgery was because he didn’t feel like he needed one. He could not afford to make other people sad for the second time. Wait, who were the others? He had no one.
“Doc, thank you for trying that hard for me but I think God loves me more. Just let me enjoy the final 3 months of my life in my own way.”
“You’re giving up…”
“I’m not. And I’ll never give up. I just…..miss my mother. And I want to see her very soon.” Taisuke stood up from the chair and left the room after he shook the doctor’s hand. That was the last time Dr Sakurai saw his patient.
That was 2 months ago. Taisuke knew he didn’t have much time left.
“Fujigaya?” Mitsu stuck his head into the other’s room, only to see Taisuke’s face was as pale as that of a ghost.
“Are you ok? You don’t look good. Wanna go to the hospital?” Mitsu grabbed Taisuke’s face with both his hands before the other pulled away his face.
“No. I’m okay….err….I’m not okay but I don’t want to go to the hospital. The doctors don’t wanna see me anymore.” Taisuke laughed a bit at his own words, which were not funny at all.
“Have you taken your medicine?”
“The medicine makes me looks like this, actually. Hehe…” Taisuke stood up and put on his black jacket before staring at the other.
“What’s with that stare?”
“Why were you calling me just now?” Taisuke opened the wardrobe and reached for a light blue cap before putting it on his head. It was his lazy hair day so the cap saved his day.
“Ah! Okay. Let’s go. Where do we go this time?” Mitsu stood on his toes to grab the cap Taisuke just had put on. With a smile, he placed the cap on his own head and gave a red black cap to the other.
“Oi! I was dreaming of wearing that cap last night.” Taisuke could only giggle at what Mitsu did. The other really knew how to make him smile these few weeks he spent with him.
“Let’s catch the waves by the sea!” Taisuke took out the car key from his pocket.
“I’ll drive. I don’t wanna die with you.” Mitsu snatched the key before walking quickly towards the door when Taisuke began to pout.

“Say, Fujigaya.” Mitsu broke the silence between them that lasted for 20 minutes while lying on the white soft sand.
“Hm?” Taisuke put off his cap to let the sea breeze blow his long hair while listening to the sound of the waves hitting the shore.
“Do you have any last wish? Before you….go meet God?” Mitsu didn’t feel good asking this question, but that was one of the things that he really wanted to ask the tanned boy, who only had roughly a month left to breath in the air.
“Let see…..I had most of my wishes come true. You wanna know what they are?” Taisuke turned his head a bit to look at Mitsu’s face, which was covered with the blue cap.
“If you wanna share, I wanna know of course.” 6 months ago, Mitsu had known nothing about this guy. Taisuke never let Mitsu or anyone else ask anything about him. In fact, nobody did. But, these few days, Mitsu was like Taisuke’s personal diary. And that happened right after the day, Mitsu was told about the sickness Taisuke had.
“I didn’t have many wishes since a guy like me hardly gets his wishes come true. When I first stepped in the orphanage, there was only one wish. I wished that I can get out from there and build my own life. So, I guess you can say that I’ve fulfilled that wish on my own. I have what I want now. A house, a car, a career, friends, money, though it is just enough for me to live day by day.” Taisuke sighed very deeply, and it was not a disappointed sigh. He was grateful that he could achieve all that on his own. He had been proud of himself when he had entered the university with his own money obtained from the part time job he did since he had been 11, while his friends were still depending on their parents to feed them every day. And yet, he was one of the top students, and some lecturers’ pet…And he did not boast about it. He struggled for it. Having 2 hours of sleep each night, surely paid off.
“But I don’t know anymore since when I felt like there’s a big hole in my heart. A hole that I never knew how to cover.” Taisuke realized that ever since he moved into Mitsu’s house (after he sold his own), he felt like he still had one wish that had yet to be fulfilled. He couldn’t do it the right way nor probably find the right person to make it come true.
“Eh? But I thought you’re dying because of a brain tumour?” Mitsu was confused by the statement just made by the other. Few days ago he had a long conversation with Taisuke about what the sick Taisuke had and he was 100% sure it was a brain tumour. But why did Taisuke talk about a heart disease now?
“Silly. It’s not THAT kind of sickness. How naïve are you at times, Mitsu?” Fujigaya laughed when he saw Mitsu remove the cap from his face and look at his face with a very surprised look.
“Then?” Mitsu, still looking at the other with his shocked (but cute) look, asked.
“It’s like…..I’m not good in explaining things but….you know. All this while I thought my life was complete with all I have now. And that’s why I don’t regret dying young. But since I have become close to you, been your housemate for these few months, I want to be…..taken care of by someone. I want to be asked about what I eat, where I wanna go, why I look pale. Those kind of things.” For these 25 years he had lived, Taisuke never liked to be ‘interrogated’ these kind of ‘stupid’ questions. And that made him a complete loner. He had a house but nobody ever came to it. He had a nice black sedan but nobody ever was his passenger. And now, those empty ‘seats’ were all filled by the small guy who was lying next to him.
“Are you in love? And who’s that unlucky person?” Mitsu chuckled as he said unlucky because that certain person could never be with Taisuke forever or ever after. Taisuke smiled at those words. They’ve been joking about the limited time Taisuke had to live and he was totally okay with that.
“I’m not sure we can call this ‘love’ because I don’t think so. It’s just that, I wanna be with somebody until I take my last breath.” Taisuke had girlfriends and none of them were worth this kind of ‘feeling’ he had now.
“You are getting weirder each day, you know? Yesterday you talked about wanting to die on somebody’s lap and now you talk about wanting to live with someone. Does that tumour affect you this much?” Mitsu leaned up and threw a glance towards the beautiful scenery before them. Deep inside his heart, he knew very well the feeling Taisuke felt. In fact, he realized that Taisuke’s existence changed his life too He felt much happier and surprisingly, he could show more of his care towards the other.
“Maybe….but for your information, this is my last wish. But I care less about that because I have no time to find that ‘someone’, right?” Taisuke followed Mitsu’s gaze before he heard the other let out a small sigh.
“Fujigaya….”
“Hm?”
“Can I……be that someone? If you can’t find someone else before you die?” Mitsu faced the sand underneath him before he heard the guy beside him laugh.
“You sound eerie.” Mitsu could feel his face turn as red as a lobster in the sea (if there was any) when Taisuke said that. Soon, he felt a soft touch on his right shoulder, making him turn his head to search for the other’s face.
“But, that’ll do. At least, I can get half of that wish come true.” Taisuke smiled before getting up and jogged towards his car.
“Your wish is my command, Taisuke.” Mitsu whispered to himself, while looking at the other with a very deep pain of sadness in his heart.

It was the final day of their stage play before they could get a long rest to re-boost up their energy for the next play.
Taisuke did not feel very well since morning, yet he couldn’t bear to tell Mitsu or the others because he wanted to finish this play badly. He knew this would be his last day to be on stage.
As the curtain fell, as sign of the ending of their play, Taisuke felt his head hurt very much and he couldn’t do anything as he started to collapse on the floor. No, it was not the floor. He could feel a small hand catch him before his head landed safely on a very comfortable ‘ground’, not the hard wooden floor.
“Taisuke!” He could hear Watta was shouting his name loud enough to make the other 5 boys and few staffs ran to see what had happen to him. He could see both Watta’s hands were holding his arms. The other 5 were standing in front of him. Who caught him just now? On what did he land?
“Taisuke….” A very familiar soothing voice, which he had always listened to these few months, called his name.
“Let’s take him to the hospital.” Watta tried to get him up before being stopped by the hand that caught him from falling to the floor.
“No, Wataru. He doesn’t want to. It’s time.” The voice spoke very soft. And then, he could feel the cold of little water drops on his forehead. Were these tears? Taisuke couldn’t open his eyes but he tried his hardest to say something to the owner of the hand….and the lap. Yes, he was on that person’s lap.
“Mitsu….” Taisuke tried to reach out his hand and searched for Mitsu’s before the other took it into his.
“Taisuke…” Mitsu failed to stop his tears from falling down onto the other’s face though he had always promised himself not to cry when the time came.
“I guess my wish has come true now. I don’t need to find that ‘someone’…..I think I have already been with that someone for the last few months of my life. I’ll never regret this, Mitsu.” Taisuke smiled but he knew it was so hard to do so when his brain was about to explode.
“I know, Taisuke. I knew it from the day we were at the beach. I knew you found that ‘someone’. And I’m glad you’ve had that wish come true. I’m sure you feel very peaceful now.” Mitsu gripped the other’s hand tighter, trying to chase away the pain of sadness he felt.
“Thank you, Mitsu. Thank you for the short but sweet time we spent together.” And that was the last words Mitsu ever heard from the guy who had been his rival at first, and became his housemate, and soon became his ‘someone’ who he was glad he took care of.

Date: 2013-01-16 06:18 am (UTC)The whole fic is sad, but there're still some cute moments that light it up a bit. Like how Mitsu stands on his toes and exchanges the caps with Taisuke(cute shortie :x)or how Mitsu offers to be Taisuke's special someone and Taisuke finds it weird <3
Thank you so much for writing this. It's just as great as its name 'short but sweet'.
p/s: the title itself is a pun, isn't it? because we joked about it the other day right XD?
